The Coaching Consortium of WNY - Our Process

"Edmund Hayes Hall" of the State University of NY at BuffaloCoaching is a collaborative relationship between an individual, the organization, and the coach. It is delivered by CPI/RWCA's consortium of coaches on three levels:
1. Executive - It is lonely at the top.  Executive Coaching gives the most senior employees in an organization someone to talk to on a peer-to-peer level.
2. Promotional - Growth opportunity for fast trackers.  Promotional Coaching helps prepare the up and coming management "star" to attain the next rung on the corporate ladder - and beyond.
3. Remedial - Shape up or ship out.  Remedial Coaching enables the retention of talented management employees with leadership deficiencies, usually interpersonal.

Coaching seeks to facilitate individual development or improve individual performance in the interest of meeting specifically defined business objectives.  It is a relationship based on trust, open communication, and confidentiality.  It is always designed to meet specific needs of the organization and the individual being coached.  A typical process includes the following:

Planning Meeting
The recommended coach (see "Assessment" below), sponsoring manager (the client), and individual to be coached initially meet to consider needs, gather information, clarify and determine outcomes, and set schedules.  Commitment to the process and specific goals are crucial to the success of the coaching program.

Assessment
Taking stock includes dialogue and the use of various research-based, valid, and reliable assessment instruments to provide “starting-point” information on interests, skills, values, and communication style.  Depending on the assignment, one or more assessment instruments may be administered before the Planning Meeting in order to facilitate the matching of a coach with the individual.

Action Plan
Using the assessment data, background on the individual’s career path, as well as information on the organizational goals and culture, a plan is jointly developed between coach and individual.  Agreed upon goals, activities, and desired results are outlined and a schedule for meeting sessions is decided.

Coaching
The coaching sessions, delivered around implementing the Action Plan, include problem solving, dialogue, feedback on behavior, and the clarification of values, assumptions, and priorities.  This is an opportunity for the individual to have an objective point of view on their development or performance with honest feedback and insight.  At the end of the coaching assignment, the individual and coach prepare a Growth Plan for ongoing guidance and three-, six-, and nine-month follow up maintenance checks.

Evaluation
To conclude the program a final meeting with the manager, individual, and the client is held to summarize progress, review the ongoing Growth Plan, and schedule follow-up that may be required.
