Outplacement Services - Candidate Support

Career Center
In May of 2001, CPI/RWCA moved into a brand new career center.  Designed and constructed from the ground up to support transitioning candidates, we believe it is the most advanced facility of its kind anywhere.

CPI/RWCA fully recognizes that office space alone will not make any candidate successful in their transition.  Nevertheless, we have learned that having a professional and supportive business environment from which to conduct a job search is invaluable.  It continues the business routine of "going to work" each day, it provides a venue for necessary administrative support, and it puts candidates in a positive environment where they can share what's working and what's not working with others in similar circumstances.  Conducting a job search "from home," regardless of the technological support of any web-based program, is simply not as effective as daily face-to-face counselor contact and peer support.

Technology - Hardware
Our offices are equipped with T-1 Internet access enabling high-speed data retrieval and transmission.  Candidates in Comprehensive Programs are all provided computers for their personal use.  All candidates are evaluated early in their programs for technological capabilities and remedial training undertaken where necessary so that each can effectively utilize the resources available.

Technology - Software
Candidates are provided CareerAdvantage, a subscription database of 2.5 million organizations cross-referenced by industry, location, and keywords.  CareerAdvantage also includes 8000 recruiters cross-referenced by location and functional specialty.  Candidates are also provided ResumeMaker, the worlds leading online resource for assistance in the development of resumes.  ResumeMaker is particularly useful for group workshop programs where many individuals need resume writing assistance quickly.  Whatever method is used in developing a resume, all are reviewed and edited when necessary by a CPI/RWCA counselor.

Online Career Center
While personal interaction between consultants and candidates is crucial to a meaningful experience, we recognize that technology can help accelerate one's progress. As the industry leader in this approach, CPI is proud to provide the Online Career Center (OCC), a tool chest of cutting-edge technology.  Take a brief tour and view a Flash demo of the OCC at  http://www.cpiworld.com/careercenter.asp. The OCC provides candidates with individually customized and personalized career search tools that they can access any time of day or night.  As one of the most comprehensive and unique online career resources available, individuals can perform interactive self-assessments, complete their Virtual Career Workbook, learn interview techniques, create resumes, research companies, access career links and career resources, and even manage their appointments, contacts, and email.  A courtesy password/user code is available on request for clients interested in a personal/private OCC demonstration.

Proactive Marketing
CPI/RWCA has established a huge network of client and contact organizations that use us for sourcing candidates for position openings.  Many organizations "post" their openings with us.  Furthermore, all candidates departing our programs for new positions are asked to be part of our Alumni Database.  These alumni are then enlisted to be networking contacts for candidates following them in the career transition process.  Some former candidates have generously supported the networking efforts of current candidates for ten years or more.  They consider it a means of "giving back"; a quid pro quo for the support they received during their transition.

Finally, since 1986, CPI/RWCA has made candidate credentials available to the business community through quarterly mailings and this website.  These activities have proven very effective in surfacing job opportunities that candidates might never find otherwise on their own.  For many years the "Mini Resumes" were mailed to fifteen hundred human resource and senior hiring executives quarterly.    Recently, however, technology has made the quarterly mailing unnecessary as all resumes are available, updated daily, on this website.

It is no exaggeration to say that, next to networking as a tactic for finding new employment, the proactive marketing efforts of the CPI/RWCA staff is the most productive developer of job opportunities available to our candidates.  Literally hundreds of candidates have connected with new jobs through these processes over the years.

Assessment and Evaluation
CPI/RWCA uses the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the DiSC extensively as a means of assisting candidates understand their approach to a job search, to enhance our counselors' understanding of individual candidates, and to identify alternative career choices the candidate may consider.  CPI/RWCA counselors are qualified and certified in the MBTI and the DiSC.

In addition, we also use the Workforce Big Five, Strong Interest Inventory, the Campbell Interest and Skill Survey, and the Career Assessment Inventory.  For those candidates with entrepreneurial interests we administer the Entrepreneurial Success Style Indicator.  We do not use assessment for the sake of assessment; there will be many candidates for whom assessment would be a redundant exercise.  Each candidate is evaluated for the need and benefit to be achieved by assessment and action taken accordingly.
